Fire Station 27, Kirkland, WA, USA, 2024

Through its form and vibrant color, Elemental Balance expresses the elemental duality of fire and water. Like a spray of water, a flickering flame, or stand of riparian grasses, the 27 individual stalks of the sculpture represent Fire Station 27. A palette of deep watery blues seen from one vantage is contrasted with the brilliant reds and oranges of fire emphasized from another. As one moves past the artwork, and at night with the addition of changing colored light, the colors blend and express the elements of fire and water in balance.

Elemental Balance was commissioned by the City of Kirkland. The sculpture was engineered by Yetiweurks; fabrication by Atomic Fabrications, painting by Diamond Painting, and installation by Studio Fifty50.
